Covid-19 Update

On behalf of all of the shops and businesses in Ashburton I would like to thank you for your continued support during the Coronavirus crisis. The community of Ashburton should be very proud of the way it has pulled together to respond to the crisis. It is an incredibly challenging time for businesses and now, more than ever, your local high street needs your help to get back on its feet.

As we take another big step forward and re-open our non-essential retailers I want to reassure you that we are doing all we can to protect you and our wonderful community. Your shopkeepers have been working tirelessly to make sure their shops are Covid-Secure so they can welcome you back into a safe environment.

Ashburton Chamber of Trade have been influential in guiding our shops and helping them to adapt their businesses. With such a diverse high street and historic buildings there have been many challenges to overcome but we have worked together with the Town Council and Dartmoor National Park to ensure Ashburton can be a safe shopping space for all.

We have been able to strike a deal with Dartmoor Distillery to secure 200 litres of Hand Sanitiser for the shops and other essential services in Ashburton. We have sourced face shields from Church’s Ironmongers for our shop keepers and we’ve been working on developing a consistent set of key messages that you’ll see around the town on our posters.

You’ll have noticed some other changes around town – many shops have had screens fitted, shop keepers may be wearing face shields and you could be asked to queue as we limit the number of people inside the shops. This is all being done for your safety and we ask that you please be patient, considerate, kind and respect each other’s space.
