Ashburton Post Office 'Big Build' Project
What's The Story?
The plea has gone out to help make Ashburton Post Office a community resource for the future, after critical funding for the project fell through.
Ten years ago, Stuart & Jackie took over Ashburton Post Office, armed with only a vision of creating and protecting services for the community, both now and for the future.
In 2015 they welcomed Ashburton Library into our space. And this sparked the idea of bringing more essential community resources that are under threat all into one place.
Since then their vision has grown and building work is underway to create a Combined Community Resource Hub – a Post Office, Library and a hub for banking and other services all under one roof. This would be the first of its kind in the UK.
The Hub will be further enhanced by the Spoke – a mobile Post Office servicing rural Dartmoor communities.
There will also be rooms providing safe and inclusive space for groups to meet, including quiet outdoor space for the community to use.
As part of the work, the Library will be moving upstairs to the first floor and they are installing a lift to enable access for the whole community.
However, the funding that we were hoping for to help pay for the lift has fallen through and Stuart & Jackie now need to raise £30,000 to fund it.
Stuart says: “We believe that Ashburton desperately needs these services so that our wonderful community can continue to thrive. And we need your help to do this.”
There is a GoFundMe campaign page taking donations here.
